German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul says indirect contacts between the United States and Iran have already taken place, while preparations for direct talks are underway

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 27th, 2026) Pakistan intensified diplomatic efforts through backchannel and telephonic engagements to promote peace during the middle East conflict, according to a report published by a US newspaper.

The report said Pakistan’s leadership maintains working relations with both US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, positioning the country to play a facilitative role in easing tensions.

It stated that Pakistani officials held a series of telephonic contacts with leaders in Tehran, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Cairo, Istanbul and Brussels as part of efforts aimed at de-escalation.

The report, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir remained actively engaged in diplomatic outreach to help restore regional stability.

Separately, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said indirect contacts between the United States and Iran have already taken place, while preparations for direct talks are underway.

He added that a meeting between representatives of the two countries is expected soon and could potentially be held in Pakistan.
