ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) Former Punjab Irrigation Minister and senior water policy expert with UNDP Pakistan’s National Governance Programme, Mohsin Leghari said Pakistan’s principled neutrality in the recent conflict helped build trust among major global stakeholders, enabling the country to facilitate ceasefire talks.

In an interview with the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) on Thursday, Mohsin Leghari said Pakistan refrained from aligning with any side in the conflict and instead “took the side of humanity.” He added that this approach, backed by consistent and skilled diplomacy, enabled Islamabad to win the confidence of both Washington and Tehran at a critical moment.

“Pakistan did not take sides in this war - it took the side of humanity,” Mohsin Leghari said, noting that the country’s neutrality enabled it to emerge as a credible mediator at the height of tensions.

Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic strength, he said the country’s strategic value extends beyond military capabilities. According to him, Pakistan’s ability to maintain trusted relationships with multiple global players — including the United States, Iran, China and countries in the Arab world — remains a rare and significant asset.

“The hosting of ceasefire talks is proof that Pakistan’s strategic value lies not in its military weight alone, but in its unique ability to hold trusted relationships on all sides simultaneously,” he said.

Leghari further remarked that Pakistan did not pursue recognition or credit for its role, but instead focused on achieving peace. “Pakistan did not seek credit in this war; it sought peace. The ceasefire and hosting of talks in Islamabad speaks for itself,” he concluded.
