PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2026) A shortage of essential food items has been reported in Peshawar due to the PTI protestors blocking various main roads.
The situation in the province has led to a sharp increase in the prices of flour, sugar and other daily-use commodities.
According to reports from various markets on Monday, traffic suspension on the Motorway and GT Road has severely affected the supply chain of food items to Peshawar and surrounding areas. As a result, only a limited stock of flour and other basic necessities remains available in the city.
The transportation of food supplies has been disrupted for the past several days due to the closure of major highways, particularly the Motorway and GT Road. The situation has not only affected Peshawar but has also limited food availability in the southern districts and tribal areas.
Due to the disruption in supply, an impression of artificial shortage is being created in the markets, while prices continue to rise rapidly.
With Ramadan approaching and fears of further shortages, a large number of citizens are rushing to markets for bulk purchasing, causing unusual crowds in business centers.
Reports indicate that the price of a flour bag has increased further, while the prices of sugar, gram flour (besan), ghee, cooking oil and other essential items have also risen significantly. Similarly, prices of dry milk and other packaged goods have also gone up.
Traders warned that if road closures and supply disruptions continue, the shortage of flour, sugar and food items may worsen in the coming days, creating serious difficulties for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during Ramadan.
Meanwhile, residents have urged the provincial government to take immediate measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential goods and to control rising prices to prevent a possible crisis.
