PU VC stresses role of character-building societies in nurturing moral values

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that character-building

societies play a vital role in nurturing moral values among students alongside academic

learning, helping them develop as responsible and principled citizens.

He was addressing an oath-taking ceremony of the Character Building Society (CBS)

at the Institute of Zoology, University of the Punjab, New Campus, here on Monday.

The event was attended by Director Institute of Zoology Prof Dr Nabila Roohi,

DSA Director Dr Shahzeb Khan, CBS Coordinator Dr Bushra Nisar Khan, faculty

members, and a large number of students.

The Vice Chancellor said education was not limited to acquiring knowledge but also

involves developing honesty, discipline, leadership qualities, teamwork, and a strong

sense of responsibility. He added that such societies help guide students towards

positive activities, including community service and ethical engagement, while steering

them away from negative influences.

He said strong character forms the foundation of a successful life and a progressive

society, stressing that universities should actively support character-building initiatives

to produce responsible and ethical citizens.

Prof Dr Muhammad Ali administered the oath to newly inducted members, who pledged

to uphold the principles, values, and rules of CBS and to work with dedication for promoting

integrity and transparency.

On the occasion, a poster competition was also held, providing students a platform

to express creativity on social and ethical themes. Winners were awarded prizes

in recognition of their performance.

Dr Nabila Roohi said the CBS serves as an important platform for developing moral values,

leadership skills, and commitment to a corruption-free society. She added that the society

would continue organizing seminars, awareness campaigns, and community outreach

activities throughout the academic year.

The Character Building Societies initiative, launched annually by the National Accountability

Bureau (NAB) across educational institutions, aims to promote integrity, transparency, and

active citizenship among youth.
