LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2026) Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the Punjab government is conducting its affairs with complete transparency, in accordance with legal requirements and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
She said this while speaking in the Punjab Assembly on Saturday. She said that under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), 437 schemes have been completed, while more than 340 projects have been approved, and all approval processes will be completed by June 30.
She said, "No project is approved within minutes, instead, every project undergoes a complete institutional and legal process before being sanctioned for public welfare."
Regarding Muharram arrangements, the minister stated that exemplary arrangements were made across Punjab during Muharram-ul-Haram and Ashura, and these efforts should not be politicized.
She said that more than 50,000 surveillance cameras were deployed and
a QR code-linked button system was introduced.
Comprehensive security arrangements were made, she said and added that
facilities including distribution of Niaz (charitable food) and water sprinkling were provided.
She further said that Over 100,000 police personnel, along with the Pakistan Army and Rangers, performed their duties.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, despite being unwell, personally supervised all arrangements, and representatives of all schools of thought appreciated the government's efforts.
About environmental and climate initiatives, the senior minister said that during the past two and a half years, the Punjab government had taken historic steps in environmental protection and climate change.
She stated that nearly 100% of the Environment department's development budget had been utilized.
She said that Maryam Nawaz Sharif introduced Punjab's first comprehensive Smog Mitigation Plan and modernized an Environment department that previously lacked even basic resources.
Currently, more than 1,000 modern technical and multi-sectoral environmental projects were underway across all districts, she maintained.
The minister said that under Punjab Climate Watch, 7,089 locations have been mapped using QR codes.
More than 13,000 advanced monitoring systems were operating with live-location tracking. Over 10,000 pyrolysis and fat-melting units were being monitored. More than 60,000 health inspectors were collecting environmental data.
She further stated that the AQ Punjab App, Digital Compliance System, Industrial Zoning System, and other advanced monitoring mechanisms were fully operational.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that
2,000 electric buses were being introduced in Punjab and Up to 99% exemption had been granted on token taxes and registration fees for electric vehicles.
The number of Super Seeders had increased from 300 to 8,000, with over 8,000 machines operating under a 65% subsidy, helping reduce crop residue burning.
About Forestry and Wildlife, she stated that 11 modern environmental laboratories have been established.
Rs 30 billion agricultural mechanization programme was underway.
While criticizing the previous government's Billion Tree Tsunami project, she described it as a "historic fraud," stating that the current government monitors forests based on:
Tree coverage, Sustainability, Tree lifespan, and Geo-surveillance.

A Special Forest Force comprising 600 personnel."
She said, "Punjab's first Wildlife Hospital is ready for inauguration in July."
Clean Punjab and Water Supply
Under the Suthra Punjab Programme, an effective sanitation system had been implemented in both urban and rural areas, she said and added that Rs 8 billion worth of clean drinking water projects have been launched for South Punjab, Central Punjab, and Pothohar.
Marriyum said that 5,600 new water filtration plants were being installed and the development work was underway in 2,000 villages under the Punjab
The senior minister praised all law enforcement agencies conducting operations in Punjab's riverine (Katcha) areas.
She stated that Rs 58 billion worth of development programmes were ensuring the provision of basic facilities in these regions.
Regarding Welfare Programmes for South Punjab, she said that the Punjab Chief Minister's welfare initiatives were significantly benefiting the people of South Punjab.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said that
out of 189 industrial units in Faisalabad, 111 units were being relocated outside the city.
Under the E-Mobility Programme, buy-back and subsidy schemes have been introduced for electric buses, rickshaws, and other vehicles, she said.
Senior minister said that So far, 500 electric buses have arrived in Punjab, of which 345 have been allocated to South Punjab.
She said that under the Punjab Climate Change Policy, 14 sectors have been mapped with defined targets and budgets.
Marriyum said that the Punjab Climate Observatory has also become operational and will support climate data collection, monitoring, and policymaking.
About Recycling and Plastic Reduction
She stated that Color-coded, GIS-tagged recycling bins have been installed in educational institutions throughout Punjab.
A Carbon Credit Programme was also underway.
Punjab's largest-ever public awareness campaign against single-use plastics was being conducted.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that the effective implementation of the Punjab Financial Management Act 2022, along with initiatives including Punjab Economic Transformation Programme,
The province's first Growth Strategy,
Social Economic Registry, One Map Punjab, E-Procurement, E-Office, business One Window, and Digital Governance had placed Punjab on the path toward modern and efficient governance.
She said that in Gujranwala
additional classrooms have been constructed and scholarships have been provided whereas teacher shortages have been addressed.
The first University of Gujranwala had been established.
She added that the Punjab Assembly has approved grants for the 2026–27 Annual Development Programme, including allocations for Environment, Archaeology, Tourism, Aquaculture, and
Fisheries.
Concluding her speech, Marriyum Aurangzeb praised the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, stating that the Punjab government remains firmly committed to its agenda of development,
transparency, environmental protection, public welfare and economic stability.
