Punjab Govt reaffirms strong support for tourism growth:Rana Arif Iqbal Harnah

SIALKOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Apr, 2026) The Punjab government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting tourism and preserving heritage in Sialkot, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Archaeology Rana Arif Iqbal Harnah said on Saturday.

Addressing a seminar titled “Hidden Beauty of Sialkot: From Heritage to Tourism” at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), he stressed the need to develop tourism infrastructure and highlight local heritage to attract visitors and boost economic growth.

He said that the government had significantly increased the tourism budget from around Rs.1.5 billion in the past to Rs.18 billion this year,adding that a major portion of the funds had already been utilized on development projects.

Highlighting ongoing initiatives, he said new attractions were being developed in Murree,including a chairlift towards Kotli Sattian, as well as a glass bridge and a glass train to enhance visitor experience.

The parliamentary secretary added that Rs.100 million had been earmarked for the renovation of Allama Iqbal’s ancestral house,while surrounding properties would be acquired and parking facilities developed to facilitate tourists.

He further that said that Rs.30 crore had been allocated for the restoration of Sialkot Fort, with plans to relocate offices currently operating within the premises and establish a food street to promote tourism and cultural activity.

Speakers at the seminar said Sialkot had strong potential to emerge as a hub for cultural and heritage tourism if supported by proper planning, investment and promotion.

SCCI President,Syed Ahtesham Mazhar called for coordinated efforts between public and private sectors to effectively showcase the city’s historical assets.

Other speakers highlighted the importance of policy support, heritage preservation, media outreach and digital promotion in positioning Sialkot as a tourism destination.

The seminar brought together policymakers, experts and stakeholders to discuss strategies for unlocking the city’s tourism potential.
