RWMC removes 2,000 tons of sacrificial waste on first day of Eid

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th May, 2026) The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) removed around 2,000 tons of animal waste across the district on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha.

Member of the National Assembly, Tahira Aurangzeb, Commissioner Rawalpindi, Engineer Amir Khattak and Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema visited the Sixth Road Transfer Station on Wednesday to review ongoing Eid sanitation arrangements.

The officials also visited an Eid sanitation awareness camp established by RWMC, where waste bags were distributed among residents to encourage proper disposal of sacrificial waste.

Briefing the media, officials said all 168 complaints received from citizens had been resolved.

They said the sanitation operation was being monitored across all six districts of Rawalpindi division and was also being live-streamed to ensure effective supervision and transparency.

According to the administration, waste was being disposed of in accordance with standard operating procedures, while authorities aimed to ensure “zero waste” across the district on the fourth day after Eid.

Meanwhile, RWMC had deployed more than 6,340 sanitary workers and 1,066 vehicles across the district to ensure uninterrupted waste collection and disposal services.

RWMC Chief Executive Officer, Rana Sajid Safdar told APP that leave for all staff had been cancelled during the Eid operation.

He said the sanitation campaign was being carried out in 164 union councils across seven tehsils of Rawalpindi district, including Rawal Town, Pothohar Town, Saddar, Taxila, Gujar Khan, Kahuta and Kallar Syedan.

According to the CEO, the operation covered 729,577 houses, 1,556 mosques, 98 Eidgahs and 560 graveyards.

RWMC had established 33 transfer stations and four dumping sites for the timely disposal of sacrificial waste, while 7,991 containers and drums were also being utilised during the campaign, he added.

Rana Sajid Safdar said 11 large trenches had been excavated at dumping sites to ensure safe disposal of waste.

He said 144 vehicles remained engaged in waste transfer activities at the 33 transfer stations established at key locations, including Chakla Bridge, Pirwadhai Mor, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Sixth Road, Shamsabad, Jalebi Chowk, Waris Khan, Committee Chowk, Morgah Road, Liaquat Bagh, Chakri Interchange, Chak Beli Khan and Sagri.

The RWMC helpline 1139 would remain operational round the clock for prompt resolution of public complaints, he said.

Citizens could also register complaints through telephone numbers 051-9291108, 0316-4801718 and 0316-4801719, while complaint resolution time had been fixed between 30 minutes and two hours.

For this purpose, 14 staff members in two shifts and 20 personnel at five control rooms would remain on duty around the clock, he added.

The cleanliness operation was also being monitored by Clean Punjab, CMS, PMDU, SMU and the Special Branch.

As part of the public awareness campaign, RWMC distributed 376,700 waste bags among residents and conducted awareness drives through 1,300 streamers, 1,900 banners, 46 hoardings, 61,000 brochures, 6,250 posters and 997 vehicle banners, he informed.
