Tezgam derailment near Lodhran suspends railway traffic

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Mar, 2026) Rail traffic on Up and Down sides of the country was suspended on Tuesday night when Karachi-bound 8-Dn Tezgam went off the track which resulted in injuring at least 25 passengers when its five bogies overturned out of 8 derailed coaches near Adam Wahan Railway Station.

Pakistan Railways Divisional Superintendent Hanif Gul told APP that derailment occurred around 9 pm apparently owing to some technical fault, adding that the actual cause will be determined after visiting the site.

He informed that one part of train was heading towards Bahawalpur and the other was at Lodhran when the train derailed.

Rescue teams reached the site immediately after the incident, the DS said and added that he was on his way to site to monitoring rescue and relief operations.

"Our first priority is to clear the path for which two relief trains-one at Sammasatta was shutting and other from Multam has been dispatched," Mr Gul said, adding that DC Lodhran Ashraf Gujjar informed that hospitalized patients were stable.

A camp was erected at Lodhran to facilitate the passengers, the DS noted.

DC Lodhran said that he reached the spot and oversaw rescue and relief operation, adding that the passengers were shifted to nearby school and were served food. He informed arrangements were also for their rest.

He stated that no casuality was reported, adding that seven out of eight hospitalized passengers were discharged after treatment and only one female was under observation at DHQ Lodhran.

Rescue 1122 Lodhran DEO, Shakeel Ahmad said that they received first call at 8:56pm about the incident, teams were mobilized soon after it.

He informed that injured who were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital incuded Khalid s/o Ahmad, Abdul Majeed s/o Ishaq, Ebad Ali s/o Nawab Ali, Abid train guard s/o Sabir, Jameel s/o M. Saif, Azirur Rehman, Sardar Hadi and Farzana.
