Trump optimistic over results of high level US–China meeting

BEIJING: US President Donald Trump has described his presence in China as an honour, saying he was warmly received during his visit in a manner he had not experienced before, calling it a highly significant diplomatic engagement.

President Trump said the discussions held between the United States and China would produce “the best possible outcomes” for both nations.

He termed his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as highly constructive and positive, emphasizing that mutual respect is the first step toward progress in international relations.

He further noted that relations between China and the United States have a profound impact on the entire world, adding that citizens of both countries can play an important role in each other’s development through cooperation and engagement.

On the Chinese side, President Xi Jinping expressed satisfaction at hosting President Trump, calling the visit historic and significant for bilateral relations.

Xi Jinping said both sides should support each other in achieving success and highlighted that China’s development vision and the “Make America Great Again” agenda could progress in parallel. He added that all key matters were discussed in detail during the meeting.

He further stated that there is a strong bond between the people of China and the United States and reaffirmed agreement with President Trump on strengthening strategic ties. According to him, both countries should move away from rivalry and focus on cooperation.

Xi emphasized that collaboration, rather than confrontation, should define the future of bilateral relations, adding that the relationship between China and the United States is crucial for global stability and development, and both nations must share responsibility for the benefit of more than eight billion people worldwide.

On the American side, President Donald Trump reiterated optimism that continued engagement between the two countries would contribute to global progress and mutual prosperity.
