UAF kicks off wheat harvesting

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has kicked off wheat harvesting by arranging a formal ceremony at the Directorate of Farms.

UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali inaugurated the wheat harvesting while Deans Dr. Shahid Mahmood, Dr. Anjum Munir and Dr. Rao Zahid; Directors Dr. Muhammad Aslam, Dr. Riaz Ahmed Virk, Umer Saeed Qadri; Dr. Shoukat Ali, Treasurer Zeeshan Ishfaq Bukhary, Dr. Nadeem Akbar, Jahanzeb Tariq and others also notables also attended.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr. Zulfiqar Ali said that in the context of changing climate, heat tolerant varieties will not only increase productivity but also help ensure food security.

He said that high-yielding varieties have been introduced in the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

He said that Baisakhi festival is decorated to enjoy the hard work and moments of joy of farmers, which is a reflection of our rural culture.

Saluting the contributions and hardworking of farmers, he said that we have to make technology accessible to our hardworking farmer brothers so that agriculture can be made a profitable business.

He said that UAF and the Department of Agriculture Extension Punjab arrange wheat campaign every year where experts and students go from house to house and farm to farm to spread awareness about modern technology.

Director Farms Dr. Muhammad Aslam said that wheat has been cultivated on 750 acres in the main and sub-campuses of the university where students are also being trained through research in addition to organizing exhibition of modern technology.
