The Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) and Germany’s KfW Development Bank have signed an agreement worth €40 million to implement a climate resilience project for improving water supply and infrastructure in Faisalabad city

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) The Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) and Germany’s KfW Development Bank have signed an agreement worth €40 million to implement a climate resilience project for improving water supply and infrastructure in Faisalabad city.

WASA spokesman said here on Monday that the agreement was formalized at a ceremony attended by German Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Ms. Ina Lepel as the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Captain (Retired) Nadeem Nasir participated in it as guest of honor.

Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza along with senior officials including Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Admin Shoaib Rasheed, DMD Engineering Shoaib Zia, DMD O&M Usman Zia, Director P&D Hina Saleem and Deputy Director P&D Sanwal Malik were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, DC Nadeem Nasir highlighted ongoing efforts to improve water supply, sewerage operations and development projects in Faisalabad.

The German ambassador appreciated these initiatives and reaffirmed Germany’s support for sustainable urban development.

She described the project as an important milestone under German cooperation, aimed at enhancing water supply services in Faisalabad.

Managing Director WASA briefed the participants about various foreign-funded projects completed under WASA supervision and termed the new initiative a significant step for strengthening water management systems.

Under this project, 25 inline tube wells would be rehabilitated while one new major water tank and six additional tanks would be constructed.

Similarly, Gulfishan Water Works would be upgraded to a modern rapid sand filtration system with a capacity of three million gallons, he added.

He said that PC-I of the project would be prepared soon and physical work is expected to commence formally within next few months.

Upon completion, the project would significantly improve the supply of clean drinking water to residents, enhance water quality and help prevent wastage, he added.

Later, the German ambassador visited the terminal reservoir on Daewoo Road where she reviewed pumping stations and other installations and appreciated the ongoing efforts and planned improvements.
