ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) The Sensitive price Indicator (SPI) based weekly inflation decreased by 0.69 percent during the week ended on April 16, 2026 for the combined consumption group, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported Friday.
According to PBS data, SPI for the week under review for the group fell to 353.21 points as compared to 355.66 points recorded in the previous week. On year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 12.16 percent.
The weekly SPI with base year 2015-16 = 100 covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) decreased by 0.36 percent to 332.97 points from 334.17 points.
The SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733–22,888; Rs 22,889–29,517; Rs 29,518–44,175; and above Rs 44,175 decreased by 0.44 percent, 0.48 percent, 0.59 percent and 0.84 percent, respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 17 items (33.33 percent) increased, 17 items (33.33 percent) decreased, while 17 items (33.33 percent) remained stable.
Major decrease was observed in the prices of diesel which declined by 25.77 percent, followed by chicken 10.07 percent, onions 6.63 percent, LPG 4.
15 percent, wheat flour 3.34 percent, petrol 3.10 percent, bananas 2.78 percent, garlic 1.29 percent, mustard oil 0.80 percent, pulse mash 0.74 percent, firewood 0.58 percent and potatoes 0.56 percent.
On the other hand, prices of tomatoes increased by 6.27 percent, bread 3.27 percent, eggs 2.09 percent, milk fresh 1.15 percent, lawn printed 1.06 percent, washing soap 0.66 percent, long cloth 0.52 percent, curd 0.46 percent, mutton and shirting 0.21 percent each, powdered milk 0.16 percent and vegetable ghee 0.07 percent.
On year-on-year basis, the SPI for the week under review increased by 12.16 percent compared to the corresponding week of last year. During the period, major increase was recorded in the prices of tomatoes by 69.35 percent, LPG 60.40 percent, diesel 49.22 percent, petrol 44.10 percent, onions 42.67 percent, gas charges 29.85 percent and wheat flour 28.80 percent. Prices of chilies powder, mutton, beef, powdered milk and garlic also increased.
Meanwhile, prices of potatoes declined by 45.43 percent, pulse gram by 20.00 percent, salt powder by 12.78 percent, sugar by 11.65 percent, pulse masoor by 11.63 percent, chicken by 8.69 percent and pulse moong by 1.87 percent over the same period of last year, PBS reported.
