PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi inaugurated the district-level ‘Status of Women’ Committees in 26 districts of the province on Thursday.

The event was attended by Deputy Speaker Provincial Assembly Suriya Bibi, Secretary Social Welfare Department Sharif Hussain, Chairperson of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women Dr. Samira Shams, senior district officials, newly nominated chairpersons of the district committees, and other relevant stakeholders.

On this occasion, formal notifications were issued for the appointment of chairpersons of the Status of Women Committees established across 26 districts of the province.

Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister described the initiative as a significant step toward safeguarding women’s rights and advancing their welfare.

He highlighted that the provincial government is undertaking targeted measures to strengthen and scale up key social protection interventions, including Darul Amans, shelter homes, the “Koi Bhoka Na Soy” initiative, Ehsaas Kafalat, and other welfare programs to ensure improved outreach and effectiveness.

The Chief Minister noted that “Zamung Kor” holds a special place in his priorities, describing it as a model institution dedicated to the care, education, and rehabilitation of vulnerable children.

He directed the Social Welfare Department to take concrete and actionable steps to further expand the scope and impact of ongoing welfare initiatives, assuring full governmental support in this regard.

Congratulating the newly nominated chairpersons, he urged them to discharge their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, and to play an active role in ensuring the protection and promotion of women’s rights at the grassroots level.

Sohail Afridi underscored that women have consistently played a vital role in the social and economic development of society, and reiterated the government’s resolve to further empower women by enhancing their access to opportunities and institutional support.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enabling women to effectively confront emerging challenges and to contribute more meaningfully to the overall progress and prosperity of society.
