ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) Emphasizing awareness about seasonal health risks, a health specialist on Friday urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures in the summer, including avoiding dark-coloured clothes and artificial food colours, increasing fluid intake, and protecting themselves from heat exposure.

Dr Kashif Ahmad Malik, a renowned skin specialist, speaking exclusively to a local media channel, shed light on the growing concerns of skin and stomach-related diseases during the summer months.

He explained that exposure to high temperatures, excessive sweating and poor hygiene practices are major contributing factors to various health issues.

The specialist emphasized that with proper care and preventive measures, many of these health problems could be avoided.

One of the Primary recommendations from Dr Malik was to avoid wearing dark-coloured clothing during the summer, as it absorbs more heat and can lead to increased body temperature and discomfort.

He also warned against the consumption of artificial colour-based food products, noting that such items can irritate the digestive system and increase the risk of stomach-related issues, especially when combined with hot weather conditions.

Dr Malik further stressed the importance of hydration, advising individuals to increase their intake of water and traditional beverages like lassi.

He explained that staying hydrated is crucial not only to prevent dehydration but also to help regulate body temperature and reduce excessive sweating, which can often lead to skin irritations and rashes.

In addition to hydration, the specialist recommended minimizing exposure to direct heat and excessive sweating, which can cause skin rashes, sunburn and other dermatological conditions. He highlighted that prolonged sweating can clog pores and lead to infections or skin breakouts.

Therefore, it is essential to avoid situations where excessive perspiration can occur for extended periods.

Dr Malik also highlighted the significance of personal hygiene during the summer months.

He strongly advised against sharing personal items, such as towels and combs, as these can easily transmit bacteria and fungi, leading to skin infections or exacerbating existing conditions.

He emphasized that maintaining clean and separate personal items is a simple but effective way to reduce the risk of skin issues.

Concluding his advice, Dr Malik recommended the use of oil-free sunblocks to protect the skin from harmful UV rays. He emphasized that these steps, combined with general awareness and proper care are essential to protect oneself from the harmful effects of the summer heat, preventing not only skin and stomach problems but also promoting overall well-being during the season.
