ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) A meeting to review preparations and devise a strategy for the upcoming anti-polio campaign was held here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram.
During the meeting, the District Polio Control Room provided a detailed briefing on ongoing arrangements. Meanwhile, the District Support Officer (DSO) of the World Health Organization (WHO) updated participants on the progress and administrative measures for the forthcoming drive.
The Deputy Commissioner issued firm directives, stating that training for polio teams must be achieved 100 percent to prevent any negligence during the campaign. He urged all relevant departments to ensure effective coordination for the success of the anti-polio drive and instructed the health department to further improve its performance.
The meeting also emphasized increasing the routine immunization rate, aiming to raise it from the current 84 percent. Mr. Akram ordered a special campaign to effectively cover refusal cases and directed legal action against parents who do not cooperate.
He stressed the need to make public awareness campaigns more impactful, stating that parents must be educated to ensure children under five years of age are administered polio drops. Additionally, directives were issued to ensure complete validation of the micro plan at the union council level.
The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that strict action, including salary deductions, would be taken against District Polio Managers (DPMs) who fail to follow prescribed procedures in the field.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), the District Health Officer (DHO) Abbottabad, the DSO from WHO, the EPI Coordinator, the Health Coordinator, and other relevant officials.
According to the provincial government's Good Governance Roadmap, effective measures continue to be implemented to protect public health and eradicate polio from the district.
